Links with New Siblands Special School

 

Gillingstool has built a close working relationship with New Siblands Special School based on a long term inclusion programme. The work involves classes from each school working together on a curriculum based project.

 

The objective of the inclusion programme is:-

'To develop effective whole class inclusion with as curriculum focus which meets the goals of both school.'

 A summary of these goals:-

• To provide experince for New Siblands pupils of working with mainstream pupils
• To enrich the curriculum for New Siblands pupils by provision of a high quality mainstream setting
• To develop confidence in the personal and social dimension for pupils in each school
• To provide pupils with first hand knowledge of pupils with severe leraning difficulties to eliminate prejudice and fear
• To reinforce and consokidate learning by Gillingstool pupils through their peer tutoring role
• To develop a team approach with staff to ensure that inclusion is curriculum based in its objectives

Younger children from New Siblands visit Gillingstool Nursery one morning weekly to play alongside and with each other. Careful planning has taken place between the nursery teachers involved.  There are other times during the year when children and staff from both schools get together at either Gillingstool or at New Siblands; e.g Christmas performances, special assemblies and events.
